How much fuel will I use
We get asked this question all the time and it is hard to answer because everyone’s needs are different. Pellet Fires Tasmania supplies pellet fuel to its customer base and records purchase data, we know that the average consumption over a 12 month period is just less than 1 tonne (2016 it was 922kgs per customer). We also know that some customers only purchased a very small amount and others much more.
The following graphs are an analysis of all Pellet Club account customers for the 12 month period up to 1/1/2016. It shows that 66% of all customers purchased less than 1 ton, 24% between 1 and 2 tons, 9% between 2 and 3 tons and 1% 3 to 4 tons. Typically customers buying more than 2 tons are using pellet heating as a Central Heating system either with multiple heaters or Hydronic pellet boilers.
The Standard Deviation Chart shows the distribution from normal = 55.98 bags (840 kg). This means that more people consumed 840kg in a 12 month period than any other group. So it would be fair to say that most customers will use between $560 and $615 per year. The sample used was ALL Pellet Club Customers which excluded Cash Sales

Pellet fuel supply in Tasmania Today
Pellet fuel is readily available in Tasmania from our depots in Hobart, Launceston and Ulverstone. We source a number of brands from different suppliers (Pellet Mills) to ensure that there is sufficient supply to meet demand. Pellet Fires Tasmania holds a small investment in Island Bio-Energy Pty Ltd which was the first 100% hardwood pellet manufacturer in Tasmania. Island Bio-Energy can not supply the Tasmanian market on its own so a number of manufactures have emerged in the local pellet fuel market including Oak Industries and Wood Pellet Tasmania which has expanded its capabilities. There are more Tasmanian pellet mills in the pipe line and back up supplies from Geelong and New Zealand. Local, interstate and oversees supply options provides Tasmanians with security of fuel supply into the future.
During 2014 and 2015 we had to ration fuel during peak periods to avoid shortages, this situation has now been addressed and the industry is now moving forward without threat of pellet fuel shortages again. Pellet brand is subject to availability and managed to ensure there is always supply of fuel. Not all brands will be available in all depots due to transport logistics however there will always $10 bags of pellet fuel available for our Pellet Club customers.
Our Pellet Club is a loyalty program which offers our customers discounted pricing for fuel and servicing. To be a member you just need the heater you are using to have been purchased from Pellet Fires Tasmania, in other words it must be a heater that we support. There are NO membership fees. Pellets are sold by the bag, minimum is 1 bag. Most customers pick up about 8 to 10 bags at a time as it fits easily into the boot of a car, some prefer to buy a years supply (average 66 bags) and pick up on a ute or trailer.
